But SISTER ACT is where it gets really painful. Yes, SISTER ACT, the most entertaining movie from my childhood. Is this movie really the work of God? Is it really? We shall see about that.
The movie opens up with a Three Woman Stage Act in Reno with Whoopi Goldberg singing all of the later songs from the film like MY GUY.
Check that. Three Women. Three Fates. Urd Verdandi Skuld. Right now you're saying, "But Kevin, that was based on Motown." Yes but take a look back to the origins of the Three Woman singing group cliche. It's based on a Greek Chorus which is traditionally played by The Three Fates. There's a reason why the Fates in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS are based on a Three Woman Singing Group.
Then Harvey Keitel shows up as the Gangster Boyfriend. Harvey Keitel would later play THE DEVIL in Adam Sandler's LITTLE NICKY.
Then you've got Kathy Najimy as a Nun. She's one of the Sanderson Sister Witches in HOCUS POCUS with THE DEVIL Gary Marshall. Kathy Najimy is also in that Death Freakshow film RAT RACE which was by the director of GHOST and also featured Whoopi Goldberg. By Death Freakshow I mean everyone on the DVD Cover connects back to a movie where an Actor Died.
Then you've got Maggie Smith, the Head Witch from the Harry Potter Series.
Then you've got Wendy Makkena from one episode of TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL. And she was in the Illuminati film EIGHT MEN OUT with John Cusack, he's got his own article.
And you've got Bill Nunn as the Cop. Bill Nunn from the Demon Succubus film DEF BY TEMPTATION.
The Director of SISTER ACT, Emile Ardolino DIED one year later in 1993. Wow, that's coincidental.
Paul Rudnick the Screenwriter made ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES, and he made both IN & OUT and THE STEPFORD WIVES for Frank Oz, the director of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS with the Three Fates Ronette Crystal and Chiffon, and THE DEVIL John Candy.
Suddenly SISTER ACT isn't looking so INNOCENT ANYMORE as it was meant to be. But I must give Credit where Credit is Due. Despite all of these Hidden Subliminal Warnings, it is still ONE HELL OF AN ENTERTAINING MOVIE.
Beware of Wolves in Sheeps Clothing Everybody.
And let's not forget SISTER ACT 2: BACK IN THE HABIT.
Barnard Hughes Father Maurice is the Grandfather from THE LOST BOYS. "You know that's the one thing I could never stomach about this place... all the goddamn Vampires."
James Coburn was in HUDSON HAWK with Bruce Willis from the Demonology film THE SIXTH SENSE.
Whoopi Goldberg was also in BOGUS with Haley Joey Osmont from THE SIXTH SENSE too.
And then you've got Michael Jeter from THE GIFT, directed by Sam Raimi of THE EVIL DEAD Demonology Series, and you've got Keanu Reeves from THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE with THE DEVIL Al Pacino.
Sydney Lassick The Competition Announcer was from ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST with THE DEVIL Jack Nicholson from THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK.
