Dear Kevin,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Epstein files. I appreciate hearing your perspective on this important issue.
I support the release of all the Epstein files and voted in favor of H.R. 4405, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which became law and directed the Department of Justice to release unclassified documents related to Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation and to report directly to Congress. Although it passed, House Republicans made multiple attempts to block previous efforts by House Democrats. Before voting for the Files Transparency Act, I had voted in favor of H.Res.577, demanding the immediate release of all federal documents relating to Jeffrey Epstein.
As you may know, Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in New Jersey in 2019 and later died in federal custody, with the official cause ruled as suicide. Since then, the public has demanded answers about the individuals involved and the failures that allowed his crimes to continue for so long. Although some files have been released, there is still a lot more to uncover.
On the campaign trail, President Trump supported releasing the Epstein files. However, as president, he did everything in his power to block it. His friendship with Jeffrey Epstein is well-documented, despite President Trump’s reversing his stance by the time public reports with his name came out.
Survivors were silenced and ignored for far too long, and now they are suffering, yet again. Trump’s Department of Justice is so incompetent that they allowed the release of the files without redacting some of the victims’ identities. This is not only traumatizing, but it also puts them at risk of retaliation.
This is a reflection of Attorney General Pam Bondi’s lack of ability to lead the agency. During the House Congressional hearing, Attorney General Bondi was defensive and evasive to my colleagues in the House Judiciary Committee. She also acted callously when asked to acknowledge the survivors’ presence. Her actions were disrespectful to the victims, Congressmembers, and the American people.
I can assure you that House Democrats will continue to fight until all information is released and victims are vindicated.
