Dear Mr. Neece,
I hope this letter finds you well. Thank you for contacting my office regarding recent satiracle films about the Epstein files, which I voted in favor of releasing on November 18th, 2025. I appreciate the time you took to reach out, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.
President Trump campaigned on declassifying the Department of Justice’s files on the Jeffrey Epstein case, and his own Attorney General promised to do so. Earlier this year, however, the Trump Administration completely reversed course on this promise. When House Democrats demanded the release of the Epstein files in July, House Speaker Mike Johnson shut down the House until September, effectively blocking a vote on the Democratic amendment and bringing all votes to a halt for five weeks. The Trump Administration and House Republican Leadership clearly care more about hiding the truth about Jeffrey Epstein’s child sex trafficking crimes–– and protecting his accomplices–– than holding criminals accountable.
Earlier this summer, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee–– along with three brave Republicans–– successfully ordered a motion to subpoena the Epstein files. A discharge petition was then filed to force a vote on their full release, which I signed. It secured the required 218 signatures following the swearing in of Representative Adelita Grijalva, resulting in a successful House vote to release the Epstein files on November 18th, which I was proud to support. The final decision now rests with President Trump. Let me be clear: the perpetrators and enablers of these crimes should not be shielded from justice, and it is my hope that the victims can find closure in the release of the Epstein files. Should any additional legislation regarding this issue come to the House floor for a vote, I will be sure to keep your concerns in mind.
I'm so grateful that you took the time to write to me to share how our federal policies are affecting you and your family right where you are. I will continue to work with your thoughts in mind, and I hope you will write again if you have the need. To keep in touch, I encourage you to sign up for my e-newsletter via my website and regularly visit my social media on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter), as well as my website at https://scholten.house.gov, where you can find up-to-date information on my work on behalf of our community.
Sincerely,
Hillary Scholten
Member of Congress
