17th Response from United States Congress Regarding Marller Gets a Spinoff: The Return of Jeffrey Epstein

Dear Mr. Neece,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Epstein files. I was proud to be part of the successful effort to force a vote on the release of the files, and I will continue to hold the Trump administration accountable for its cover-up. I appreciate hearing from you on this matter.

Like you, I am disgusted by President Trump's attempts to ignore Jeffrey Epstein's years of abuse and trafficking of young women. During the presidential campaign, President Trump suggested he would release a list of Epstein's associates, if elected. Since taking office, President Trump, Attorney General (AG) Bondi, and FBI Director Patel have instead refused to be transparent regarding the investigation into the convicted pedophile and sex trafficker.

Powerful men protect powerful men, including those around Jeffrey Epstein. Releasing the Epstein files, with no redactions to protect abusers, will bring accountability, truth, and justice to the thousands of survivors who have waited far too long. The American people deserve to see what’s in the files. For these reasons, I signed the discharge petition to force a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act. This bill requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release the Epstein files with very limited redactions, including to protect the identities of the survivors of Epstein's crimes. This bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives on November 18, 2025, and was signed into law by President Trump on November 19.

I had the opportunity to review the unreacted documents in the Epstein files at the DOJ. What I saw in the files was sickening and enraging. It is absolutely clear that we have a two-tiered system of justice in this country: one for the rich and powerful where the law is optional, and one for the rest of us. The sheer number of people involved — and the layers of cover-up that allowed this international criminal conspiracy to rape girls — is staggering. But more than anything, I am heartsick for the survivors, who have endlessly asked for compassion and justice, and instead been met with a political circus. They will continue to be front and center in my heart and mind.

Epstein survivors deserve justice and I will fight for them, for accountability, and for the American people. You may be interested to know that AG Bondi testified before the House Judiciary Committee on February 11, 2026. In the hearing, I pressed AG Bondi on DOJ's refusal to investigate the Trump administration officials named in the files. AG Bondi must take accountability for this cover-up and finally deliver the justice these survivors deserve.

I am so proud to be representing Vermonters in Congress. Thank you for being an engaged citizen. If I can be of further assistance, please call my office at (202) 225-4115. Becca Balint
