Dear Mr. Neece,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.
On July 15, 2025, Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) introduced H.R. 4405, the Epstein Files Transparency Act. This legislation requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) to publish all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in its possession related to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein. The bill allows the DOJ to withhold certain information, including personal details of victims and any materials that could jeopardize an active federal investigation. H.R. 4405 passed the House of Representatives with my support on November 18, 2025, and was signed into law by President Trump on November 19, 2025.
The passage of H.R. 4405 builds on the investigative efforts of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. On August 5, 2025, the Committee issued a subpoena requiring the DOJ to turn over all documents related to the Epstein case. On August 25, 2025, the Committee issued a separate subpoena requiring the estate of Jeffrey Epstein to produce all documents related to the matter. Since then, the Committee has released more than 50,000 pages of Epstein-related records, including documents obtained from both the DOJ and the estate of Jeffrey Epstein. Additionally, the Committee has issued subpoenas to key officials involved in the investigation, along with a separate subpoena for Ghislaine Maxwell to sit for a deposition.
As a member of the House Oversight Committee, I believe it is critical that Congress conduct strong oversight of the federal government's enforcement of sex trafficking laws, as well as its handling of the investigation and prosecution of both Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. I understand and share your commitment to transparency and responsible governance. I will continue to fully support the Oversight Committee's ongoing investigation and H.R. 4405 to ensure the American people receive the truth and that all individuals involved are held accountable. This includes supporting efforts to obtain and review all relevant documents, hear testimony from key witnesses, and identify any institutional failures that may have allowed Epstein's crimes to continue for so long. The victims of these crimes deserve nothing less than a thorough, deliberate, and comprehensive investigation that pursues justice with care rather than haste.
Thank you again for contacting me. Representing you in Congress is an honor and I appreciate hearing from you. Should you have other concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
