Dear Mr. Neece,
Thank you for contacting my office about the federal government’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns, as it is vital that I hear directly from constituents on matters affecting public trust in our justice system.
The Epstein case remains one of the most troubling failures of our justice system in recent memory. For years, Epstein was allowed to remain free despite extensive evidence of serious crimes by him and his associates. The long delay in his prosecution, the unusual circumstances of his death, and the decision by Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Trump Justice Department to withhold releasing the investigative files of his case have understandably left many Americans questioning the justice system’s accountability and transparency.
I do not support baseless conspiracy theories. What I do support is transparency. Americans deserve clear, compelling evidence to support any conclusions issued by their government. Without openness, public confidence in the justice system will continue to erode.
This matter is about more than one individual – it is about protecting the most vulnerable members of our society, especially children and young women. In the New Jersey Legislature, I worked to strengthen laws against human trafficking and expand protections for victims of abuse, and I remain committed to those principles as your representative in Congress. That is why I am vehemently opposed to the pardoning of Ghislaine Maxwell, or any other implicated Epstein accomplice.
Support for transparency in this case is broad. A recent poll found that nearly two-thirds of voters disapprove of how the Justice Department has handled this matter. Leaders from both parties, including House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have called on the Trump administration to release all remaining investigative files. I agree – that is why I joined the bipartisan push to release the Epstein files. Yet despite Congress voting overwhelmingly to compel release of all the files, the Trump administration has been dragging its feet for months, releasing some files, and withholding many others. This is unacceptable. Truth and transparency are essential to the health of any democracy, and the American people deserve nothing less. All the files should be released without further delay.
Once again, thank you for contacting my office regarding these important issues. Your thoughts help me bring the voices and perspectives of the Garden State to our nation’s capital as I work to strengthen justice, accountability, and the rule of law. Every message from our community truly makes a difference.
