Dear Mr Neece,
Thank you for reaching out to express your support for releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files held by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your thoughts are important to me as I work to represent you transparently and effectively in the U.S. House of Representatives.
I want to be crystal clear: Epstein was a predator. He exploited women and girls, and the people who protected him need to be held accountable. As the father of six children, protecting the health and safety of our kids will always be my top priority. Children are the most vulnerable among us and deserve the utmost protection by society. Those who prey on them must be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
As you may know, Jeffrey Epstein was awaiting trial for the sex trafficking of minors when he was found dead in his jail cell on August 10, 2019. Because he died before criminal charges could be pursued, all criminal charges against him were dropped later that month. On June 28, 2022, Ghislaine Maxwell, who had a close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for several sex trafficking-related crimes.
On July 7, 2025, Representative Ro Khanna (CA-17) introduced H.R. 4405, the Epstein Transparency Act, which requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release all unclassified documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Accountability from our government isn’t optional, it’s a duty. Iowans deserve the truth, victims deserve justice, and I voted in favor of the Epstein Transparency Act to deliver both. The bill passed the House on November 18, 2025 by a vote of 427–1. The bill then passed the Senate and was signed into law by President Donald Trump on November 19, 2025.
The bottom line is that I agree with you: we must ensure that justice is served and that all those who were involved are held accountable. I remain committed to fighting for truth, because transparency is not optional—it is the first step toward justice and ensuring the safety of our children and communities.
