14th Response from United States Congress Regarding Handala Hack Team Iran War

Dear Mr Neece,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about Iran. Our Democracy only works when we get involved and your input strengthens my ability to fight for our community’s shared values in Congress. It is an honor to work alongside you to promote a more just and equitable Central Florida, the community that I’ve called home my whole life.

President Trump’s war in Iran is reckless, dangerous, and above all, blatantly unconstitutional since he did not have Congressional approval. I voted yes on a war powers resolution to reassert Congress’ power to decide if America is going to war. It is frustrating that my Republican colleagues in Congress are so quick to surrender their constitutional authority to declare war to a warmongering President by failing to lend enough votes for the measure to pass.

Whether this is about politics, oil, or shielding himself from scandal, one thing is clear: this is an unnecessary war of choice, launched without transparency or a credible justification. I strongly oppose it. Diplomacy, not bombs, has been the most effective way for the U.S. to deter the threats of the Iranian Regime and could have been leveraged to support a future for Iranians free of the violence and oppression caused by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

This also goes against the will of the vast majority of Americans, who do not want to get involved in another endless conflict in the Middle East. History has shown us that regime change wars lead to death and destruction and not to stability or peace. This military escalation has already killed innocent children and U.S. servicemembers and threatens to unleash regional chaos.

The stakes are extremely high. Authoritarians like Donald Trump disregard the law to start foreign wars for unclear reasons. Congress must act now to stop him, or there will be much more reckless behavior that endangers the lives of innocent Americans and Iranians and allows him to consolidate more power.
