Dear Mr. Neece:
Thank you for contacting me regarding U.S. military action in Iran. I appreciate you taking the time to share your views on this issue.
Since 1979, Iran has worked to expand its influence across the Middle East by supporting militant groups throughout the region. Today, it is widely regarded as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, backing organizations such as Hezbollah, the Houthis and Hamas. For decades, these groups have repeatedly targeted American embassies and U.S. military bases, taken hostages and killed American soldiers.
On February 28, 2026, President Trump announced that the U.S. military, alongside regional allies, began conducting extensive strikes against targets across Iran to degrade the regime’s terrorist proxy networks and ensure that Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon. These strikes are intended to destroy Iran’s offensive missiles and missile production, cripple its navy and dismantle key security infrastructure.
President Trump is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces under Article II of the United States Constitution. According to the War Powers Resolution of 1973, the President must notify Congress within 48 hours of introducing U.S. Armed Forces into hostilities or imminent hostilities. The Trump administration fulfilled this requirement by briefing Congress prior to the strikes on Iran, with additional briefings planned to take place as the operation continues.
Diplomacy with Iran has been tried time and again to no avail. The time to act is now, as the regime has never been weaker. Iran has funded terrorism around the world and nuclear weapons would only allow it to spread more chaos and destruction. For decades, it has been the stance of the United States that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, and I support President Trump as he continues to take bold steps to achieve this goal.
Again, thank you for contacting me. Hearing from you directly is essential for me to best represent our district in Congress. To continue following my work in Congress, you can visit my website at flood.house.gov or sign up for my weekly E-Newsletter.
