98th Response from United States Congress Regarding Marller Gets a Spinoff: The Return of Jeffrey Epstein

Dear Mr Neece,

Thank you for contacting me regarding Jeffrey Epstein. Given your interest in this issue, and your prior correspondence with me about his horrific and illegal actions, I wanted to provide you with an update on recent legislative actions I have taken to increase transparency and help make public all files related to this case.

As I have repeatedly stated, Jeffrey Epstein was the epitome of evil, and I hope he rots in hell for what he did to so many innocent children. I have met with multiple survivors of his despicable crimes, and their strength and courage is without question. That’s why I voted to pass H.Res. 672, which directed the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to investigate Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and any individuals, entities, or records associated with his crimes. The Committee has subpoenaed and released millions of pages of files, and has deposed multiple witnesses, including Ghislane Maxwell, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and an upcoming interview with Howard Lutnick. You may find all of the work the Committee has completed to date on their website here.

I was also proud to vote for H.R. 4405, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law by President Trump, that requires DOJ to publish the files within their possession related to Epstein and his crimes, while protecting the identities of any victims. To date, DOJ has released nearly 3.5 million pages, including over 2,000 videos and 180,000 images. To view the publicly released files, you may visit the DOJ website here.  I fully commend the Oversight Committee and the DOJ’s continuous efforts to uncover additional information on these crimes, and should further legislation come before me in the future regarding this issue, I will be sure to keep your comments in mind.

Throughout my time in Congress, I have been proud to work with victims of human trafficking and child exploitation to champion efforts that support survivors and put criminals behind bars. In 2018, my legislation, the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, was signed into law by President Trump. This landmark bill amended Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act for the first time in over two decades to ensure online platforms could be held accountable for facilitating sex trafficking. I led the Debbie Smith Act, which reauthorized the Department of Justice (DOJ) program that provides state and local law enforcement with the resources necessary to analyze backlogged, untested rape kits. This bill passed the House and Senate unanimously and was signed into law in 2024 by President Biden. This Congress, President Trump signed into law my Trafficking Survivors Relief Act, legislation that I originally authored in 2016 that ensures survivors who were forced to commit crimes while being trafficked can restart their lives without a criminal record. This year, I passed the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act that provides an infusion of nontaxpayer dollars to organizations that support victims of child sexual abuse, human trafficking, rape, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Hearing the views of all Missourians gives me the opportunity to better understand how important public policy items could impact the people of our state and the future interests of our nation. In that regard, your input is most helpful.
